Hypnosis for Weight Loss Seattle
Emotional Roadblock 5: Stress
Even though you feel like you're living on the edge and burning a zillion calories a minute, the fact
is...stress causes fat to be stored.
From the Dec. 1998 issue of Shape Magazine:
"Researchers have found that stress actually promotes the storage of fat deep in your abdomen rather than
just under your skin," explains Pamela M. Peeke, M.D.,M.P.H.,senior scientist and assistant professor of medicine
at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore.
Why would anxiety and depression lead to an increase in abdominal fat?
Stress prompts the adrenal glands to secrete the hormone cortisol, preparing the body for an emergency,
which includes telling it to store more fat. "And there's no question that cortisol increases fat deposition in one
place, the worst place of all - the belly," says Peeke.
Studies have shown, she adds, that deep abdominal fat cells have more receptors for cortisol and other
stress hormones than do superficial fat cels elsewhere.
If you want to lose weight and you are living a stressful existence, then you absolutely MUST do something about
this. Hypnosis itself is an amazing and very fast anti-stress tool. All of my clients learn a number of
different ways to instantly relieve stress. It's like pushing a button and re-setting the body so that your
chemicals (hormones, etc.) are working for your weight loss goals.
Listen, I understand all about busy jobs and lifestyles with the kids and parents and obligations everywhere. I
worked in a very stressful job at Fedex Express as a manager constantly working under the threat of "get it done on
time or we'll find someone who will."
I'm not telling you that you have to quit your job, sell everything and move to South America although that
doesn't sound so bad now does it? :-) What I am saying is that you must work out how to handle the issues in
your life so that your body doesn't think the barbarians are at the gate about to take over the city you live
in.
All of my clients learn hypnotic stress-reduction techniques to deal with this. Below are some tips to
reducing your stress
