Effective Weight Loss
Emotional Roadblock 4: Perfectionism
You're doing the diet thing well. You've sticking to the plan exactly as prescribed. You're drinking your eight
glasses of water a day, getting in some moderate exercise and seeing the first signs of how you really can lose
weight. Maybe this is it! Maybe you've found the magic bullett, finally after all these years. Hallelujah.
You go a couple weeks just the way you were taught and you lose a few pounds. Then, there's that dinner
party...
You resist 3 attempts by well-meaning diet sabotagers to give you that lucious dessert until you finally cave
in. And cave in you do very well with a huge helping of that wonderful cheesecake. You go to bed full of guilt
tossing and turning on your lack of willpower and standing up for yourself. You just knew this couldnt' last and
was too good to be true. The sense of failure can be overwhelming.
The next morning comes and you wake up with that dreaded feeling that you've failed and "What's the use, I will
never be successful with weight loss anyway."
You head for the pantry and find the cookies that you hid just for the kids and you dig in. The rest of the day
finds you stuffing down the emotions...
Perfectionism can be a useful trait at times, but not in making lifelong changes to lose weight over the long
haul. Listen, it's likely that you are going to slip up, backslide, or otherwise do something you wished you
hadn't. Be kind to yourself and give yourself a break. Start out by forgiving yourself for everything that's
ever happened in the past. In my office, we do this in hypnosis so that it gets to your inner mind.
The ultimate result of perfectionism is failure. There is no way of dieting or following any eating
strategy perfectly. Perfection doesn't even exist...anywhere! Give it up, it can't be done. The process has MUCH
FLEXIBILITY.
Even when you try to make healthy choices, you can't count on what is being served...especially when travelling,
at friend's houses and at the restaurant.
Where does this perfectionism have it's roots? Somewhere in your past and it's likely from childhood. Were you
told that you need to get all A's or A's and B's? That you have to do that chore just so or you wouldn't get your
allowance?
How do we undo that which is so deeply ingrained in our entire being?
Hypnosis and other unconscious communication techniques make that happen so that you can lose weight and
become Slender For Life.
