As a woman who survived breast cancer, a daughter who's mother didn't, and a widow who's husband did not
survive pancreatic cancer, I have had more experience with this disease than anyone would ever want.
Through these ordeals it has become my goal to help others emerge not only as a survivor but a
thrivor! A word I've coined that describes someone who is thriving in their life no matter
their goals.
According to the American Cancer Society’s website, 1,500 people die of cancer, just in the United States, every
day. The primary culprit of this disease is stress, the number one killer of the 21st century.
When someone is under stress, the chemical levels of epinephrine and norepinephrine rise, and in turn supress
the immune system. This allows viruses and diseases like cancer to take over the body. The conventional treatments
for cancer, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery, come with a key drawback: all cause immense amounts
of stress. This is paradoxical if stress was what caused the cancer in the first place.
As studies have shown, hypnotherapy is complimentary to conventional treatment methods, as it alleviates the
stress that comes with having cancer. One particular study done by Dr. Rumi Peynovska for the European Journal of
Clinical Hypnosis proved so.
“The findings suggest that hypnotherapy is a valuable tool when it comes to enhancing the coping mechanisms
of cancer patients…most patients (19 out of 20) reported that after the first two hypnotherapy sessions they
were able to relax for the first time in a very long period, felt less tired and more energetic, had more
refreshing night sleep and as a result were able to cope better with their daily activities.”
-Peynovska, European Journal of Clinical Hypnosis 2005
Hypnosis can help ease the stress that comes with any type of cancer as well as dig deeper to identify and
move beyond what was causing the stress. Prior to my diagnosis with breast cancer, I was bogged down by working 60
hour weeks, as a manager, in a stressful environment. This prolonged stressful situation took a mental
and physical toll on me, resulting in my eight year struggle with breast cancer. During this time my cancer went
into remission twice and reappeared twice. It took quitting my job as a manager, surgery, radiation
treatment, and my discovery of hypnotherapy to truly overcome cancer.
“Doctors at Mount Sinai School of Medicine (NY) found that patients having breast cancer surgery who used
hypnosis required less anesthesia, exited surgery quicker, and had less pain, nausea and fatigue
afterward.”
- Journal of the National Cancer Institute
According to a experiment done by Nancy Avis for the Journal of Clinical Oncology, hypnosis helped alleviate
sypmtoms from breast cancer.
“Hypnosis appears to reduce perceived hot flashes in breast cancer survivors and may have additional
benefits such as reduced anxiety and depression, and improved sleep.”
- Avis, Nancy E. (2008). Breast Cancer Survivors and Hot Flashes: The Search for
Nonhormonal Treatments. Journal of Clinical Oncology.
Additionally, hypnotherapy helps with pain management, nausea and the stress than comes with treating
cancer.
"Hypnosis has been used in Western medicine for more than 150 years to treat everything from anxiety
to pain, from easing the nausea of cancer chemotherapy to enhancing sports performance."
- Carol Ginandes
”Pain control techniques using hypnosis are simple, effective, easy to learn and applicable to most cancer
patients in pain.”- Dr. Bernie Siegel, MD, Stanford Cancer Center
It was estimated that in 2009 that one third of cancer deaths could be related to overweight and obesity
problems and that there would be 169,000 cancer deaths due to tobacco use.
Hypnotherapy can help with weight management, and becoming free of smoking which are much healthier lifestyle
choices.
Take my advice and strongly consider hypnotherapy as a complimentary treatment. I would be happy to discuss the
protocol and benefits with you at a free consultation. Call me at 425-457-7777 to schedule an appointment now.
Warmly,
Ellin Sidell, CH.t
